General Information : The department of Food Engineering was established on February 25, 1994, according to the YOK regulations on the establishment of the faculty of Agriculture. The department started its education with 30 BS students in Atabey County, 25 km to the city center. In 1999, The Department of Food Engineering moved to the main campus, 7 km to the city center. The Department of Food Engineering, reconstituted into the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture in 2007, continues teaching, training and research activities within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture.  
Qualification Awarded : Food Engineer  
Level of Qualification : The graduates of Food Engineering Program have significant knowledge to study in areas such as food production, quality control and product development.  
Specific Admission Requirements : The Department of Food Engineering only accepts High School Graduates succeeded in OSYM exam and the specified vocational school students succeeded in DGS exam.  
Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (formal, non-formal and informal) : Internal and external transfers are considered on a space-available basis.  
Qualification Requirements and Regulations : National qualifications frameworks may contain levels (or intermediate qualifications) within the three Bologna cycles (e.g. a short cycle within the first cycle). These levels allow institutions to structure a particular qualification and regulate progression through the qualification. Qualification Requirements and Regulations are enacted by YÖK (The Council Of Higher Education) in Turkey.  
Profile of The Programme : Our mission is to educate undergraduate and graduate students for careers in the food industry, academia, and government. Our primary goal is (1)to conduct research that will enhance the wholesomeness and availability of food and add value to raw agricultural products with a particular emphasis on dairy products,(2) to identify, develop, and apply the appropriate concepts, theories, and emerging methodologies from the fundamental disciplines of biochemistry, chemistry, engineering, microbiology, nutrition, and packaging to the investigation of critical issues in food systems, components, products, and processes, and (3) to maintain and improve the safety, variety, and quality of food products in Turkey.  
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples : The graduates of Food Engineering Program may work in food production companies, research and inspection services and academic institutions ruled by both the state and private sector.  
Access to Further Studies : Graduates with the Bachelor's Degree can continue their postgraduate education in the area of Food Engineering or in other specified areas.  
Aims Of Programme : The aim of Food Engineering program is to provide education about Food Technologies, product development, increasing the quality of food products, food safety and microbiology. In addition, education of qualified Food Engineers needed by the State and private companies is also aimed.  
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading : The course success is calculated by adding 40 % of Midterm exam grade to 60 % of final exam grade. The final calculation is done by the construction of standard curve of total points.  
Graduation Requirements : It is required to succeed in all courses of the program and have at least 2 GPA.  
Mode of Study (full-time, part-time, e-learning etc.) : The Department of Food Engineering is a Full-time Education Program with 8 semesters.  

Program Learning Outcomes
1 Giving the theoretical contents of courses offered by our department to students by experienced academic staff to provide enough knowledge for Professional applications.
2 Conducting laboratory work and food industry practices according to courses given by the department to develop students? skills for food industry applications.
3 Improving the skills for establishment and management of a food processing plant, product development, quality improvement, food safety and marketing.
4 Improving the skills for experimental design, conducting experiment, data collection, data analysis, interpretation of results.
5 Having knowledge and ability to manage a food processing plant independently and taking responsibility for teamwork.
6 Having the ability to reach necessary information about food engineering and to follow recent technological developments.
7 Improving Turkish and English presentation and communication skills.
8 Having professional knowledge related to the Food Engineering area.
