General Information : The Department of Chemistry was established in 1993. in 1993-1994 academic year the education started. The department of chemistry carries out researches in many areas of Organic, Physical, Inorganic, Analytical and Biochemistry. In each academic year, there are two semesters. In each semester, students must have the core courses and elective courses which are chosen by students. Students might have a practical training in Industry. In the final year, students must have the project which is supervised by faculty. In this work, it is expected that students must conduct independent survey or research or library search.  
Qualification Awarded : Chemist  
Level of Qualification : First Cycle (Bachelor?s Degree).This is a first cycle degree program in the science of Chemistry (240 ECTS credit). You will be awarded, on succesful completion of the programme and gain competencies, a degree of Bachelors in Chemistry.  
Specific Admission Requirements : Students, willing to enroll in this undergraduate program, must be succesful in the exam established by the YÖK (Higher Education Council). Students who have started studies in an equivalent program in other universities can apply for their recognition within the limit determined by our department. A commission determined by our department will evaluate and decide the acceptance of each student separatly. Under an established Exchange program or one approved by the University, Exchange students from abroad may be accepted for studies on the courses taught in English. Or, if they are confident in Turkish, they may then enrol in any course, running in Turkish shown on the ?Course Structure? diagram. Students willing to come to University within this regulations should apply to International Relation Office, Erasmus Department.  
Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (formal, non-formal and informal) : Students who accepted via horizontal or vertical transition system an adaptation program is applied..  
Qualification Requirements and Regulations : National qualifications frameworks may contain levels (or intermediate qualifications) within the three Bologna cycles (e.g. a short cycle within the first cycle). These levels allow institutions to structure a particular qualification and regulate progression through the qualification. Qualification Requirements and Regulations are enacted by YÖK (The Council Of Higher Education) in Turkey.  
Profile of The Programme : To educate chemists that know basic chemical knowledge on various areas of chemistry including organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, and biochemistry and can transfer this knowledge to the others, have the technical and intellectual skills necessary to facilitate scientific experiments in a laboratory including skill in use of lab equipment and instruments, know communication and informatics technologies, and a foreign language, are scientifically creative and innovative.  
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples : the graduates of the the department can find an employment in; Environment, food, pharmaceutical, textile , dye, soap, detergent..etc industries, ıron-steel factories, research-development laboratories, quality control laboratories .  
Access to Further Studies : Upon a succesful completion of the programme, student may continue with graduate study (Master and Doctoral) in the same or similar scientific areas which may accept students from the science of Chemistry.  
Aims Of Programme : Providing strong theoretical and experimental background in chemistry, to educate students that can work in chemistry-related industries such as health, environment, agriculture, and nutrition as well as management, production, research-development laboratories, and in education sector.

Graduation Requirements : In order to gain the degree, the student is required to have minimum 240 ECTS credit courses (from the undergraduate course program), and succesfully complete them.  
Mode of Study (full-time, part-time, e-learning etc.) : 1. Lectures 2. Problem solving 3. Audio and visual methods 4. Group discussions All these methods are supported by laboratory works, projets and technical visits.  

Program Learning Outcomes
1 Each graduate form this department: Acquires fundamental knowledge about the principal fields of chemistry including Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical- and Biochemistry
2 Has background knowledge in mathematics and physics and can apply those skills in chemistry
3 Has skills to work in chemical industry laboratories and management and is able to make innovations, do research and develop new ideas
4 Is skilful in experimenting, data collecting, analysing the results, and finding solutions that arise during any of those stages
5 Is ripe enough to know modern techniques, to choose and use suitable instruments
6 Has enough knowledge of the laboratory equipment and other supplies; is also aware of the necessity of laboratory safety
7 Has enough knowledge to research literature, databases, and other information sources
8 Is skilled in using Turkish for verbal and written communication and is able to use technology for scientific and presentation purposes
9 Obeys proffessionals and ethical responsibility and can apply the field findings for appropriate scientific purposes
10 Has skills to benefit from the potential of technology in installing and interpreting the issues of chemistry
11 Has ability to work in individual and group settings in an efficient way and is conscious of taking responsiblity
12 Is well aware of becoming sensitive about enviromental improvement and protection
13 Should be able to synthesize and analyze materials using different techniques
14 Is conscious to understand the necessity of the ?Lifelong Learning? principle.
