Address : Department of Forest Engineering, Faculty of Forestry, Suleyman Demirel University 32260 Isparta, TURKEY
General Information : Department of Forest Engineering at SDU offers education, research and consulting services in forestry in order to manage and protect forest resources within scientific perspective. Since forestry involves biological and ecological sciences as well as social and economical sciences, prospective students who want to work as foresters should be interested in sciences, be willing to work with local people, and must enjoy working outdoors. Following a 4 semesters of education with 21 credits (120 ECTS credits); successful students receive a master degree in Forest Engineering in "Forest Engineering" department. However, following a 8 semesters of education with 24 credits (240 ECTS credits); successful students receive a doctorate degree in Forest Engineering in "Forest Engineering" department. Once graduated, they will have a chance to work in variety of positions at Ministry of Environment and Forest and other public and private sector jobs related to natural resource management
Qualification Awarded : Master degree in Forest Engineering Doctor of Philosophy in Forest Engineering
Level of Qualification : Second Cycle (Master?s Degree)/ Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree).
Specific Admission Requirements : Graduates of the Bachelor degree in Forest Engineering or related areas from any University will be admitted to the Master degree program, and graduates of the Master degree in Forest Engineering or related areas from any University will be admitted to the Doctorate degree program Graduates of other Bachelor degrees who wish to take the Master degree in Forest Products Engineering must be able to demonstrate a fundamental, equivalent knowledge of the central subjects taught within the Bachelor degree in wood technology related areas. Admission & Registration Requirements: 1 - Bachelor degree (for Master) Master's Degree (for doctorate) in acceptable fields, 2 - Sufficient score from the National Academic Staff & Graduate Education Exam (ALES), 3 - English proficiency
Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (formal, non-formal and informal) : The required information can be accessed by website of the SDU of Science and Technology
Qualification Requirements and Regulations : National qualifications frameworks may contain levels (or intermediate qualifications) within the three Bologna cycles (e.g. a short cycle within the first cycle). These levels allow institutions to structure a particular qualification and regulate progression through the qualification. Qualification Requirements and Regulations are enacted by YÖK (The Council Of Higher Education) in Turkey.
Profile of The Programme : To educate high quality students with the practice of silvicultural techniques, afforestation, reforestation, nursery techniques and plant genetics. Educate students so that they acquire relevant knowledge about wildlife, forest enthomology and conservation fields; develop student's ability to solve conservation problems using the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools; develop student's ability to utilize his/her knowledge in designing, conducting and analyzing results for solving conservation, wildlife and enthomology related problems; develop student's ability to using growth new technologies. To educate students in ecology based subjects and to give expertise on interpretation and synthesis of forest ecosystems. This way, students who graduate from the soil science and ecology department will have competencies in planning and managing different ecosystems. Forest and range hydrology, hydrometeorology, range management, soil erosion, soil and water conservation, water quality, environmental conservation, watershed management, water resources planning. One of the base targets of these reasearch subjects is to provide to be equipped the graduate students about sustainability of the main natural resourses such as soil, vegetation and water.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples : Chief of Forest District, Director of Forest District, Regional Forester, Forest General Director, Forest Minister, Director of Environment and Forest, Private Forest Engineer ect.
Access to Further Studies : Graduates can pass the doctoral education if they have all requitements
Aims Of Programme : Educate students so that they acquire relevant knowledge about forestry and related fields; develop student's ability to solve problems using the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools; develop student's ability to utilize his/her knowledge in designing, conducting and analyzing results for solving basic forestry related problems; develop student's ability to effectively communicate.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading : They are specified in each course. Please see the Course Structure for details.
Graduation Requirements : The first part of the final examination for the Master degree comprises the modules detailed in section C above and is completed with the positive assessment of these courses. The second part of the final examination for the Master degree is an oral examination held before a committee and includes: the examination of the subject chosen for the Master degree thesis.
