General Information : English Language and Literature Department is made up of academicians having their expertises in various fiels of literature and linguistics. This department presents an education for the post graduate students with the master's and doctoral program literature and linguistics.  
Qualification Awarded : Those who successfully carried out all studies and defended his / her thesis are awarded ?Master?s Degree in English language and literature?.  
Level of Qualification : Second Cycle (Master?s Degree)/ Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree).In order to gain the degree, the student is required to have minimum 60 ECTS credits lectures (from the graduate course programme) and successfully completed them. Then, the student should prepare a thesis after caring out a research on a topic supervised by a senior lecturer. On a successful submission of thesis, student is required to give a successful oral examination on his/her work.  
Specific Admission Requirements : Those candidates who meet the requirements put forward by the Higher Education Council and Süleyman Demirel University?s Institute of Social Sciences are accepted for the program. Candidates from home and abroad are accepted for the program. Candidates should have deep and sound knowledge about philology. Candidates should know a second foreign language. Admission requirements are announced at the beginning of each term by the Institute of Social Sciences.  
Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (formal, non-formal and informal) : Adaptation program is applied to the students coming with the lateral and vertical transfer program.  
Qualification Requirements and Regulations : National qualifications frameworks may contain levels (or intermediate qualifications) within the three Bologna cycles (e.g. a short cycle within the first cycle). These levels allow institutions to structure a particular qualification and regulate progression through the qualification. Qualification Requirements and Regulations are enacted by YÖK (The Council Of Higher Education) in Turkey.  
Profile of The Programme : This program aims at educating research assistants in the filed of English language and literature. It also aims to equip the students with deep and sound knowledge on English history, and culture.  
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples : Graduates of English Language and Literature Department have opportunities to find an occupation in various state and private sectors.  
Access to Further Studies : After completing the bachelor?s degree of the department of Engliish Language and Literature Department successfully, any student may apply for doctorate program in this field or related fields which accept students of this department  
Aims Of Programme : This program aims at educating research assistants in the filed of English language and literature. It also aims to equip the students with deep and sound knowledge on English history, and culture. It teaches the students to think analytically and use a critical eye in literary evaluation, gather related literature concerning his / her field and carry out academic studies.  
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading : Necessary information concerning this have been given in information packets.  
Graduation Requirements : In order to obtain a degree in that field, the student is required to have minimum 60 ECTS credits lectures (from the graduate course program) and successfully complete them. Then, the student should prepare a thesis after carrying out a research on a topic supervised by his or her adviser. After the successful submission of the thesis, the student is required to defend his or her thesis orally in front of a designated jury.

Program Learning Outcomes
1 To gain the necessary skills to gather scientific data, search relevant literature and analyze the gathered literature concerning the relevant field
2 To have necessary skills in scientific research and methods
3 To have the ability to think analytically and make critical evaluation and synthesis
4 To gain the ability to analyze and evaluate the genres (verse, prose, drama, etc.) of English language and literature in terms of historical, political, social, cultural developments and criticize the main works of leading English writers
5 To be able to carry out multidisciplinary studies, and have a deep knowledge of all methodologies and movements concerning the field
6 Realizing the importance of language in shaping society enables them to have a healthy communication with their societies
7 To have healthy and constructive communication with western societies, and have the ability to evaluate and analyze the social and political changes taking place in western societies
8 To communicate with academic circles concerning one?s field
9 To publish at least one article in national and international journals
10 To be a responsible individual for his or her society and all humanity under the guidance of science
11 To be open minded to renewal and new ideas and to obtain the ability to come up with new ideas
12 To have all necessary ethical sensitivities and attitudes in the field
