General Information : The department conducts research on pests and diseases of different crops, biology and ecology of these pests and diseases, host plant-parasite interactions, pesticides and their adverse effects on the environment, mechanical, cultural, physical, biological and chemical control methods, molecular biology and biotechnology of crops and educate students for to work on these areas.Plant Protection Department has two major divisions namely; entomology and phytopathology. Laboratory research is conducted in Entomology, Fitopathology, Nemotodology, Biological control, Tissue culture, and molecular biology laborotories . Field studies are carried out in the Research and Application farms located in east campus of the University and in Kuleönü. Department of Plant Protection offers undergraduate and graduate courses for detection, identification and control of diseases, pests, and weeds causing economical yield losses on variety crop plants and agricultural biotechnology and molecular biology.  
Qualification Awarded : Plant protection program is subjected to 120 ECTS credits 7th stage degree system in the higher education. Students successfully completing the program and fulfilling the program requirements are awarded with Master of Science degree in the Field of Entomology or Plant Pathology and the title of Expert Agricultural Engineer.  
Level of Qualification : Second Cycle (Master?s Degree)/ Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree).Graduate students must complete 7 courses and earn at least 21 credits (120 ECTS), must present a student seminer and successfully complete a thesis research.  
Specific Admission Requirements : Students willing to enrol Plant Protection Master?s program must comply with the minimum requirements of High Education Counsil of Turkey and requirements of the Suleyman Demirel University, Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences posted in http://fenbilimleri.sdu.edu.tr/index.php?dosya=yonetmelik/yonetmelik_20_07_2009&tur=2. Students meeting these requirements may apply to the the program  
Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (formal, non-formal and informal) : he detail information on the application procedure is given in their web site.  
Qualification Requirements and Regulations : National qualifications frameworks may contain levels (or intermediate qualifications) within the three Bologna cycles (e.g. a short cycle within the first cycle). These levels allow institutions to structure a particular qualification and regulate progression through the qualification. Qualification Requirements and Regulations are enacted by YÖK (The Council Of Higher Education) in Turkey.  
Profile of The Programme : The aıms of Plant Protection Department are; to educate graduate students on agriculturally important diseases and pests, biology and ecology of pathogens and pests, host-pathogen interactions pesticides and their effects in the environment, mechanical, cultural chemical and biological control of pathogens and pests, molecular biology and biotechnology for crop protection to accommodate qualified employee needs of the private and pubic agricultural industry; to conduct basic and applied scientific research in these areas to solve important agricultural problems; to disseminate information, experience and technologies to producers and researchers and support agricultural development through extension activities.  
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples : Graduates can work in public institutions (Ministries, State Hydraulic Works, Private Provincial administrations, Banks) and in private institutions.  
Access to Further Studies : Students successfully completing the program may apply to Ph.D. programs in Plant Protection, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Nematology, biology and other biological and agricultural sciences  
Aims Of Programme : The objective of this program is to provide students gained solid theoretical background with skills for conduction, evaluation and practical applications of research relevant to the problems faced in different fields of plant protection. The program also aim to educate labor force that meet to the expectations and requirements of public and private sectors in the field of plant protection and prepare students with academic qualifications to the Ph.D. programs.  
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading : This section is explained in the courses description and implementation forms  
Graduation Requirements : In order to gain the degree, students are required to successfully complete 120 ECTS credits from the graduate course program and prepare a thesis on an original research subject in the field of Entomology or Plant Pathology, supervised by a graduate faculty. Students completing these requirements must defend the thesis and pass the final examination performed by the thesis committee
