General Information : The Geology Department was founded as a branch of the Akdeniz University in 1984. It was joined to the Süleyman Demirel Univ. in 1993.  
Qualification Awarded : We offer MSc, PhD  
Level of Qualification : Second Cycle (Master?s Degree)/ Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree).The postgraduate students from the Geological Engineering Program have the following learning outcomes. They have sufficient knowledge on the basic principles in scientific investigation and pedagogics basic knowledge, They have an ability to conduct explorations on subbranchs of earthscience such as general geology, mineralogy, ore deposits, applied geology, and follow developments in related-subjects in the world. They are able to apply current techniques in a known area, They are able to promote a current method and discover a new scientific method. They are able to follow modern developments in earthscience and reveal solution methods. They are able to design and conduct projects and take part in research-development (AR-GE) studies. They are able to carry out researches in advanced level, reach the desired knowledge, evaluate, analyze and apply them. They are able to combine knowledges from different disciplines and have skills for leadership. They have social, scientific and ethical responsibilities in all professional activites. They are innovative, entrepreneur and able to follow legal developments in professional areas (e.g. oil, ore, geothermal, groundwater, shore line etc.). They have qualifications desired for universities and industrial companies. They have a basic skills on computer, able to present data in oral or written form also in foreign language.  
Specific Admission Requirements : To register as a student at the first level of the master degree programme, the students have to be successful from the exams and fulfill the conditions desired by The Council of Higher Education (YOK) and desired in the regulations of the university. Registration conditions and admission requirements are issued on the web page of the Science Institute (www.sdu.edu.tr) before the initiation of the semestre. Any student who initiated at an equivalent department in the country or abroad can apply. Acceptance of the students are evaluated individually taking into consideration their degree and conditions before initiation of semestre. Foreign students who come in the Socrates-Erasmus bilateral aggreement can take lessons in English. In the case of the students have sufficient Turkish language, they can register for the lessons given in Turkish. In this case, the students who want to adequate at our university have to apply to the Erasmus Department of the International Service of S.D.U. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (formal, non-formal and informal) : Graduated from the same department may apply to undergraduate studies.  
Qualification Requirements and Regulations : National qualifications frameworks may contain levels (or intermediate qualifications) within the three Bologna cycles (e.g. a short cycle within the first cycle). These levels allow institutions to structure a particular qualification and regulate progression through the qualification. Qualification Requirements and Regulations are enacted by YÖK (The Council Of Higher Education) in Turkey.

Aims Of Programme : The objective of the Geological Engineering Program is to educate the candidates who will be able to identify, formulate and solve geological engineering problems with a thorough awareness of professional, ethical, environmental, social and economical responsibilities. The aims of the program are to produce qualified master graduates having capability providing innovative solutions to geological engineering problems, conducting advanced scientific, economic, engineering studies and explorations for the public and private sectors. and to prepare them for doctoral program.  
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading : Mid term and final exams For each course, at least one midterm examination is given during the semester and also students must take a final examination at the end of the semester/ year. To take a final examination, students must attend at least 70 percent of the classes, 80 percent of the practices and laboratories, and must take the minimum grade in midterm examination which is set by the institution. The student is given a grade by the course instructor by taking into account the midterm examinations, final examinations, the semesters work and attendance. The grade is found by adding forty percent of the average of the midterm exam and sixty percent of the final exam grade. To be successful from a course, the final exam grade must be minimum 70 and total grade must be minimum 70 out of 100. Degree Grades 70 ? 79 Satisfactory 80 ? 89 Honours 90 ? 100 High Honours  
Graduation Requirements : 60 ECTS for MSc 120 ECTS for PhD  
Mode of Study (full-time, part-time, e-learning etc.) : Full time
