General Information : Department of Agricultural Biotechnology was established in 2010 under Süleyman Demirel University, Faculty of Agriculture. New developments in the area of molecular biology and genetics brought in new approaches to agricultural production and allowed biotechnological practices to be applied on agriculture. Traditional agricultural technologies are already inefficient for sustainable agricultural production for supplying the needs of rapidly growing human populations in a period in which environmental conditions growing more inhospitable for crop growth and development. Agricultural biotechnology represents new approaches and technologies for the changing and reforming agricultural practices. Department of Agricultural Biotechnology has a wide curriculum on the theory and applications of molecular biology and genetics, genomics and proteomics, molecular breeding, genetic transformation techniques and detecting genetically modified organisms, tissue culture techniques. The major objective of the program is to help the development of professionals who are capable of practice and develop bio-technologies for agricultural production.  
Qualification Awarded : Agricultural Biotechnology program is subjected to 120 ECTS credits 7th stage degree system in the higher education. Students successfully completing the program and fulfilling the program requirements are awarded with M.sc. and Ph.D.degrees in the Field of Agricultural Biotechnology.  
Level of Qualification : Graduate students must complete 7 courses and earn at least 21 credits (120 ECTS), must present a student seminer and successfully complete their thesis studies.  
Specific Admission Requirements : Students willing to enrol Agricultural Biotechnology Graduate Program must comply with the minimum requirements of High Education Council of Turkey and requirements of the Suleyman Demirel University, Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences posted in their web site.  
Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (formal, non-formal and informal) : Detailed information on the application procedure can be found in the web site of Suleyman Demirel University, Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences.  
Qualification Requirements and Regulations : National qualifications frameworks may contain levels (or intermediate qualifications) within the three Bologna cycles (e.g. a short cycle within the first cycle). These levels allow institutions to structure a particular qualification and regulate progression through the qualification. Qualification Requirements and Regulations are enacted by YÖK (The Council Of Higher Education) in Turkey.  
Profile of The Programme : The main objectives of the program include providing education and research experience for the students who are needed by both state and private organisations and preparing students having research interest for an academic career.  
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples : Graduates can work in public and private institutions.  
Access to Further Studies : Students successfully completing the program may apply to Ph.D. programs in agricultural biotechnology and other releated life sciences programs.  
Aims Of Programme : Providing education on agricultural biotechnology and increasing the number of qualified researchers needed by the sector working mainly on molecular diagnostics and detection of genetically modified organisms.

Conducting research on basic and applied biotechnology and providing solutions for national agricultural problems.

Encouraging interdiciplinary studies mainly with researchers working on agricultural production.

Improving academy-industry cooperation by conducting research on industry oriented projects.

Raise awareness on food safety in the society and contribute policymaking.

Providing support for national and international student/researcher collobartation and exchange programs.
 
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading : This section is explained in the courses description and implementation forms.  
Graduation Requirements : In order to gain the degree, students are required to successfully complete 120 ECTS credits from the graduate course program and prepare a thesis on an original research subject in the field of Agricultural Biotechnology, supervised by a graduate faculty member. Students compleating these requirements must defend their thesis and pass the final examination performed by the thesis committy.  
Mode of Study (full-time, part-time, e-learning etc.) : Full time.  

Program Learning Outcomes
1 Students gain detailed knowledge on the principles and concepts of advanced cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular genetics and biotechnology.
2 Students gain practical skills on tissue culture techniques, recombinant DNA techniques, molecular breeding and fermentation technologies.
3 Students comprehend biotechnological applications both with a technical and social perspective.
4 Students acquire independant research skills and also the ability to take part in group studies.
5 Students access the new developments in their area by using information technologies.
6 Students gain the ability to communucate with the society in their area of specialization.
7 Students are able to prepare and conduct studies in their area of expertise.
